Richardson has grown dramatically from a village of 600 in 1930 to a thriving, master-planned community of more than 90,000 today. Because more than half of the residents have moved to Richardson from another part of the country, the city has an air of cosmopolitan sophistication not often found in a community its size. Richardson is has been dubbed as the "Telecom Corridor of the Southwest" and once was recognized as a suburban boomtown of the 1990's by the Wall Street Journal.
Education
Richardson attracts families because of the reputation of its school system being one of the best in the state. The Richardson Independent School District was selected by D magazine as one of the "Top 10 Public High Schools", as J.J. Pearce High took the number 2 spot, and Berkner came in at number 8. An individualized education program is maintained in all grades. The district's educational philosophy stresses a student-centered approach to learning through the use of a widely diversified curriculum.
The Alexander School, Canyon Creek Christian Academy, St. Paul the Apostle School, and Weise Memorial Academy also are located in Richardson.
The University of Texas at Dallas excels in high quality academics such as space sciences, geosciences and biological sciences. The university has extended its strong research program into the arts and humanities, engineering and computer sciences, general studies and much more.
